How the Microbiome Recovers After Antibiotic Damage
Antibiotics don't just clear infections — they also disrupt the delicate balance of bacteria living in the gut, and that disruption doesn't always resolve on its own. We want to know what drives a fast, complete recovery, and why some patients recover slowly or not at alll. Our central question: can we predict, from a patient's gut bacteria, what antibiotic is safest to use and can we find ways to help the microbiome recover faster after antibiotic treatment?
